Hair Restoration

In recent years, hair restoration has been refined to create a more natural looking hairline and end result. The surgery is usually done under local anesthesia and requires approximately 4 hours per session. Multiple sessions are often required depending on the extent of baldness. In a typical session a strip of hair will be harvested from the back of the head. This hair strip will be divided into single or multiple individual hair grafts called follicular units. These follicular units will then be re-implanted as single units in the hair line and larger units behind the hair line giving a more natural result. Initially the hair will fall out but in approximately 3 months new hair will grow restoring a natural look in the entire head. In some cases a scalp reduction may be necessary which involves a surgical resection of non-hair bearing skin from the central portion of the scalp.
